I came across this other blog, that also disputed N-Reed's casting as Rosalie Hale. Yay!
This blogger also suggests some other interesting choices for the Twilight characters.
Except, I don't agree with her choice for Edward because in my secret little "tween" heart I really, truly do think R-Patz is the perfect Edward. :)
Check it out!

okay so the characters i thought were truly well-cast were alice (ashley green) and carlisle (peter facinelli) [@nurturingnarcissism: justin hartley is hot, but WAY TOO young!]
ReplyDeleteedward/rpattz and bella/kstew i thought were poor choices initially. however i feel like the movie solidified their casting. rpattz is undeniably hot and then dark in all the right ways. kstew's awkwardness proved perfect for bella. one thing to nitpick though... i think rpattz has too much facial hair. he's just not clean shaven enough (and they didnt even make-up it away! you can see the shadow/stubble throughout the entire movie). if you've become a vampire with amazing features, do you really have facial hair? it's like the superman dilemma--how do you even shave when you're bulletproof/indestructable?
rosalie (nikki reed) is the worst casting choice, second is esme (elizabeth reeser), and third is victoria (who??). nikki's got big thighs and kind of chubby... not to say she's unattractive, but i'm pretty sure smeyer's words something like "sports illustrated model" which does not describe nikki reed. elizabeth reeser is not right for esme either and it didn't help that she played that woman who had a face transplant in greys anatomy. that just doesnt associate well with esme's pristine image. i agree with nurturingnarcissm's suggestion of emmy rossum even though for some reason i had the impression esme was blonde (i guess i wasn't paying attention). lastly, the actress for victoria looks like a freakin' hippie... and that's not the victoria i envisioned at all.
ok did i blab enough?
OK, I've given this a lot of thought as well (time which probably would have been better served studying/working...SOML).
ReplyDeleteRpatz IS right for Edward, but he is just a really hairy person. I thought they could have waxed his eyebrows even more for the movie, and did you see how hairy his arms were??? I can only imagine how hairy the rest of his body is...haha. In the bookstore I flipped thru one of those "making of Twilight movie" books (not sure if it was Hardwicke's Director's Notebook or something else) and there was an unretouched photo of Rpatz standing with his shirt open before they added the sparkling effect. And DAYUM his stomach is hairy.
Vampires really should have flawless skin. Also some scenes, like the meadow, you can SEE where the pasty white makeup ends on his neck. UGH. His 5 o'clock shadow did get on my nerves too. Maybe they need CGI for his skin, maybe makeup isn't enough...
And I changed my mind about K-stew (which I will detail in a post later)...K-stew CAN act. In fact, (and I know this is bordering on blasphemous for me to say, but) Rpatz was actually sometimes a worse actor than K-stew. I felt like his timing was really off in the lunch scene on the line "What if I'm the bad guy?"
I don't know if it was her decision or the director/screenwriters, but K-stew's portrayal of Bella is much more spirited than in the books; which originally bothered me at first, but now I think it's probably a good thing because such a docile home-maker of a person would have been really annoying on-screen. K-stew is also really good at those subtle face movements, lip biting, eyelid flicks, etc.
Esme's hair is described in the books as "caramel" actually...I think it looked okay in the movie. Emmy Rossum is prettier than E. Reaser, but very young, isn't she our age or younger?
I think they could have picked a hotter person for Jasper, but Jackson Rathbone was OKAY. The thing that got me was that fucking wig, or whatever they did to his hair...not hot. Also he had only 3 lines so it's hard to tell if he is a good actor or not.
I actually liked the woman they picked for Victoria...
Charlie and Mike and Angela and Jessica were all really good actually.
As for Taylor Lautner, guess the proof will be in the pudding in New Moon!
